More than 40% of people employed in accommodation and food services working part time

Results of labour force survey

In 2010, the main activity of a total of 1.49 million people was in accommodation and food services. A share of 41.4% of them worked part time. This is reported by the Federal Statistical Office based on results of the microcensus on the occasion of the International trade fair for hotels, restaurants, catering, confectionery and café (INTERGASTRA), which will take place in Stuttgart from 11 February 2012. Accounting for 57.8% of the persons in employment in this branch, women were clearly over-represented. A proportion of 42.5% of all people employed in accommodation and food services were aged between 15 and 34. Thus the share of younger people was considerably higher compared with the economy as a whole where the relevant age group accounted for not more than 30.5% of all persons in employment.
