11% more first-year students in mechanical engineering
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 27,700 first-year students enrolled for the field of mechanical engineering in winter semester 2007/2008, which was 11% more than a year earlier. The total field of engineering in Germany recorded a 9% increase to 61,600 first-year students. Two-digit growth rates were achieved in the subject group of engineering not only for mechanical engineering but also for regional planning (+11%) and civil engineering (+16%). However, the number of first-year students in the field of electrical engineering was only 4% above previous year’s level.
