First half of 2008: More births, deaths and marriages
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results, the number of live births slightly rose by +1.2% (334,200 children) in Germany in the first half of 2008 compared with the first half of 2007 (330,400 children). The number of deaths rose by 16,400 or 3.9% to 437,600 in the first half of 2008. Hence, the number of children born was by 103,400 smaller than the number of persons who died in the first half of 2008. In the first half of 2007, the balance of live births and deaths was –90 800.
