Municipalities in 2008 in total with positive trend in the revenue
WIESBADEN– As provisional result by Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the municipalities and their associations in Germany spent EUR 167.5 billion in 2008, which was 4.2% more than in the preceding year. As their revenue increased by 3.3% to EUR 174.9 billion in the same year, the financial surplus of the municipalities amounted to EUR 7.4 billion.
Decisive for the revenue increase was the growth in tax revenue by 6.2% to EUR 70.4 billion and the rise of general grants (+10.8% to EUR 27.0 billion).
On the expenditure side, the investment expenditures grew by 4.3% to EUR 20.9 billion.
The position of credit market debt of the municipalities reached EUR 76.5 billion at the end of 2008 (31.12.2007: EUR 79.0 billion).
