Slight increase in the number of retired public officials of the Federation
WIESBADEN – According to preliminary results reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), a total of about 171,600 former public officials and professional soldiers of the Federation or their surviving dependants received pension payments from the public old-age pension system in January 2009. That was a 1.1% increase compared with one year earlier. While the number of old-age pensioners rose by 1.7% to 123,400 persons, the number of surviving dependants entitled to pension payments fell by 0.3% to 48,200 persons.
