The rate of price increase does not only depend on how the prices change. Another important factor is the weights with which the price trends of the individual types of goods are included in the overall index. The price kaleidoscope gives a quick overview of the price trends and weights of various product groups in the consumer price index.
Business Cycle Monitor
The Destatis Business Cycle Monitor visualises the development of selected short-term indicators in a quadrant system which covers the basic phases of the economic cycle. This is an alternative graphical presentation unlike the usual way of displaying the indicators on a time axis. You may use it as an interactive tool to research the economic cycle and the factors influencing it.
Personal inflation calculator
The goods basket of the consumer price index consists of about 700 goods. The price development is calculated for each type – for instance books, cinema tickets or petrol. The complete consumer price index is a weighted mean of the price trends observed for all the about 700 types of goods. With the personal inflation calculator you can establish your individual weighting pattern and then calculate your personal inflation rate on that basis.
Age structure of the population of Germany
Here you can see results of the 12th coordinated population projection in the form of animated age pyramids. Four different variants are selectable, based on different assumptions. The assumed development of the age structure is presented over a period of 110 years.
Age structure of the population by Länder
In addition to the federal results of the 12th population projection coordinated by the statistical offices of the Federation and the Länder there are corresponding data by Länder.
Regional Atlas
The statistical offices of the Federation and the Länder offer an interactive regional atlas as a joint product. The regional atlas presents more than 80 indicators as thematic maps for a multitude of subject areas of official statistics for all rural districts and towns not attached to an administrative district in Germany. With each map, the user is offered a wide scope of interactions for information visualisation and retrieval.
Atlas of Foreign Trade Data
The Atlas of Foreign Trade Data makes it possible to present Germany’s foreign trade with its partner countries graphically by size classes on a world map. The system enables a presentation of total exports and imports, of the trade balance surplus/deficit of the years 2004 to 2007, and also the visualisation of German foreign trade by various goods classifications.
Air Transport Atlas
With the Air Transport Atlas, one of its cartographic applications, Destatis provides data on air transport. That application contains information on the volume of passengers, air freight, and air mail. What is shown is air transport to and from other countries for reference years 2005 to 2007, whereas intra-German air transport is not presented.
Technical notes
The interactive graphics are supported by the browsers Microsoft Internet Explorer (from 6.0) and Firefox (from 1.5). JavaScript must be activated.
The Internet Explorer requires additional software to read the non-geographical applications (SVG-graphics): For price kaleidoscope, business cycle monitor and personal inflation calculator the Adobe SVG 3 plug-in is needed. The animated age pyramids require Flash.
Firefox, Opera, Safari and some other browsers in current version go without additional software or plugins.
The personal inflation calculator may be stored for use without internet connection. Please click the right mouse button to open the context menu "Current frame" (Aktueller Frame), select the menu item "Store frame under" (Frame speichern unter) and store the file as a SVG document.
It is not possible to integrate these graphics into PowerPoint.
