Comparative price levels are calculated at the European level for all 27 European Union Member States, the current candidate countries (Croatia, Macedonia, Turkey), for three countries of the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Norway, Switzerland) and for four western Balkan states (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia). The purchasing power parities used for the comparison do not refer to the total expenditure but to the actual individual consumption according to the system of national accounts. This includes only prices of all goods consumed by households – irrespective of who pays for those goods.
