Welcome to the library of the Federal Statistical Office
The library operated by the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden is the largest special library for statistics in Germany. Its stock of statistical literature covers both statistical methods and, above all, statistical results. The publications are available in print form, but also – with increasing importance – as electronic or digital media. Apart from statistics, the focus is on business information. The fields represented include economic sciences, theory, practice, empiricism, economics and business studies. Literature is also collected on social and population sciences, the environment, computer science, history, politics, law and administration. A specialty of the stock is the large amount of “grey literature” such as research, project and conference reports which cannot be purchased via the publishers’ bookselling trade.
All in all, the library’s stock of literature comprises approximately 500,000 media units such as books, volumes of periodicals or CD-ROMs. In addition, we have currently subscribed to about 1,200 periodicals. Online publications, for example, electronic periodicals are increasingly gaining in importance. The Federal Statistical Office’s own online products are accessible free of charge also to external users in the library’s reading room.
