Foreign trade

Germany’s economy is very much export-oriented and hence also export-dependent. At the same time, due to scarce natural resources Germany also depends on imports – in particular, in the energy sector (mineral oil, natural gas). In 2010 Germany exported goods worth 952.0 billion euro and imported goods worth 797.1 billion euro. The foreign trade balance achieved a “surplus” of 154.9 billion euro.
