Debt, financial assets of public budgets

The public budgets of the Federation, Länder and municipalities/associations of municipalities, including their extra budgets, recorded a total credit market debt of EUR 1,636.2 billion at the end of 2009. This was an increase of 7.9% on the previous year. The credit market debt of the overall public budget has risen by 1,040 billion EUR since 1991, when it amounted to EUR 596 billion. Additionally they have taken up loans for strengthening cash resources amounting to EUR 58.4 billion, that were 5.6% less compared to the previous year. So the total burden on public budgets was EUR 1,694.7 billion, that means it was 7.4% higher than in the prior year.
