Information society

Mobile phones, computers and the internet have become immanent parts of our society. Modern information and communication technologies have rapidly developed over the past few decades and today they are present in all spheres of life.

Networks and, first of all, the internet provide easier access to far-reaching information and keep opening up new possible uses. Banking transactions can be executed online. Forms and questionnaires of public administration are accessible on the internet and can directly be transferred as a digital file. The worldwide web provides enterprises with a new sales channel and customers more and more frequently order products and services via the internet.

At the same time the information and communications industry has developed into one of the most dynamic industries, whose importance keeps growing. The ICT sector has a huge growth potential, giving the economy and the population a lot of chances.

Two volumes containing tables on "Informationstechnologie in Haushalten 2005" (Information technology in households, 2005) and "Informationstechnologie in Unternehmen 2005" (Information technology in enterprises, 2005) provide detailed data, complementing the press brochure.
