International statistics are interesting both for individuals who like travelling and for German businesses operating on an international scale. The "international tables" contain 13 basic statistical indicators for each of more than 160 countries of the world; they may be retrieved either through an alphabetic list of countries or through a selection of indicators showing worldwide data comparisons.
The bases of international statistics are a variety of printed and electronic data sources both of international organisations and of statistical agencies of other countries.
The basic indicators give a first overview of the demographic and economic situation of any country. More detailed data material is contained in the publications on international statistics of the Federal Statistical Office and is provided upon request by the information service on international statistics for all countries, regions, and economic areas of the world.
The six-page "country profiles" offer comprehensive data material and colour charts on selected countries and are available for free download.
For tourists and especially for any Germans staying abroad for a longer period of time, the purchasing power of the euro is particularly useful for assessing the value of goods and services they get abroad for one euro.
With a range of information of its own, the European Data Service (EDS) addresses anyone interested in harmonised statistical data on the EU, the euro area, the EU member states and the accession countries. It offers data of European official statistics.
Within the scope of statistical co-operation with transition and developing countries, the Federal Statistical Office provides consulting for public and private institutions. With expert missions to the relevant countries or seminars and workshops performed in Germany, German official statistics supports the setting up and restructuring of official statistics in the transition countries of central and eastern Europe, the New Independent States, China, and various developing countries.
