Organic farming

Organic Farming is characterized by not using synthetic inputs (fertilisers, pesticides) and the aim of a closed ecological system within a farm. Natural processes of life, such as soil fertility and power of resistance, shall be fostered and sustained. The prescribed management and the standards of organically working farms are specified in the Regulation (EEC)
No. 2092/91 from 1991. This regulation, originally valid just for the cultivation of land, was complemented by the rules of livestock farming in 1999. Since the agricultural census in 1999, data about organic farming has been recorded in the official agricultural statistics of Germany in a biennially elicitation.
