WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, 38,200 visiting students were registered at German institutions of higher education in the winter semester of 2006/2007. Their number rose by 4% over the last ten years. The increase was particularly large for the visiting students aged over 60 (+57%). The average age of visiting students increased from 46 to 51 years in that period. 46% or 17,700 visiting students belonged to the “generation 60 plus” in the winter semester of 2006/2007.
