9% more degrees in natural sciences


WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, in examination year 2006, 43,100 candidates passed the final examinations of their studies in natural sciences. That was 9% more than in the previous year. Marked increases were recorded for mathematics (+14%) and computer science (+13%). All-time highs were reached both in mathematics (5,100) and in computer science (15,400).

In 2006, a total of 265,700 examinations were passed at German institutions of higher education. That was 5% above previous year’s level. Bachelor and Master degree courses accounted for just under 10% of the degrees. Compared with the previous year, the number of Bachelor degrees was up 53% to 15,100. The number of Master degrees reached 11,300, which was 23% more than in the previous year.
