German exports in September 2007: +3.3% on September 2006


WIESBADEN – According to provisional data of the Federal Statistical Office, Germany exported commodities to the value of EUR 81.8 billion and imported commodities to the value of EUR 63.7 billion in September 2007. German exports of September 2007 were thus 3.3% above and imports 0.4% below the respective September 2006 levels. Upon calendar and seasonal adjustment, exports and imports showed opposite month-on-month trends: Exports increased by 0.7%, while imports decreased by 2.6% on August 2007.

The foreign trade balance showed a surplus of EUR 18.1 billion in September 2007. In September 2006, the surplus amounted to EUR 15.2 billion. Upon calendar and seasonal adjustment, the foreign trade balance recorded a surplus of EUR 17.9 billion in September 2007.

According to provisional results of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the current account of the balance of payments showed a surplus of EUR 15.4 billion in September 2007, which included the balance of services (EUR –2.6 billion), factor income (net) (EUR +3.3 billion), current transfers (EUR –2.8 billion) and supplementary trade items (EUR –0.5 billion). In September 2006, the German current account showed a surplus of EUR 9.6 billion.
 
In September 2007, Germany dispatched commodities to the value of EUR 52.6 billion to the Member States of the European Union, while it received commodities to the value of EUR 41.9 billion from those countries. Compared with September 2006, dispatches to and arrivals from the EU countries increased by 8.2% and 4.4%, respectively. Commodities to the value of EUR 34.4 billion (+7.8%) were dispatched to the euro area countries in September 2007, while the value of commodities received from those countries was EUR 28.8 billion (+3.2%). Commodities to the value of EUR 18.2 billion (+9.0%) were dispatched to EU countries not belonging to the euro area in September 2007, while the value of the commodities which arrived from those countries was EUR 13.1 billion (+7.3%).
 
Germany exported commodities to the value of EUR 29.2 billion to and imported commodities to the value of EUR 21.8 billion from countries outside the European Union (third countries) in September 2007. Compared with September 2006, exports to third countries were down by 4.6% and imports from those countries by 8.4%.
 
The foreign trade results for reference year 2006 have been revised and are now final.
