Average and negotiated earnings growing equally in 2007
WIESBADEN – As shown by first results of the Federal Statistical Office’s (Destatis) national accounts, the average gross earnings of all employees in Germanyrose 1.4% to EUR 27,083 in 2007. According to calculations of Deutsche Bundesbank, negotiated wages rose 1.3% in 2007. The slightly larger increase of average overall earnings compared with the trend of negotiated wages is mainly due to the decreasing share of marginal part-time workers. Not considering that group of employees, the earnings actually paid were up 1.3%, too. The earnings drift, that is the difference between the trend of earnings actually paid and that of collectively agreed earnings, thus left the negative area for the first time since German unification.
