Number of retired public officials of the Federation slightly higher
WIESBADEN – According to preliminary results reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), a total of about 170 000 former public officials and professional soldiers of the Federation or their surviving dependants received pension payments from the public old-age pension system in January 2008. That is an increase by 1.8% compared with one year earlier. For public officials of the Federation, the number of old-age pensioners rose by 2.6% to 56 000 persons, while the number of surviving dependants entitled to pension payments fell by 1% to 26 000 persons.
