Youth welfare offices place 77 children under custody every day
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 28,200 children and juveniles were placed in the custody of youth welfare offices in Germany in 2007, which was approximately 2,200 (+8.4%) more than in 2006. Hence, youth welfare offices gave “first aid” to a calculated number of 77 children and juveniles per day in situations dangerous for them. That number was 71 children and juveniles per day a year earlier. 435 of those official custodies were instituted against the explicit will of those who had the care and custody of the child or juvenile. In 2006, there were 151 cases of such forced custody. For further information please call: Bonn Branch Office Dorothee von Wahl, tel: (+49-1888) 644-8167,
