Every fourth family in Germany has a migration background
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), slightly more than every fourth family (27%), out of the total of just under 8.6 million families with minor children in the household, had a migration background in Germanyin 2007. This proportion stood at 30% in the former territory of the Federal Republic(excluding Berlin) and was more than twice as high as in the new Länder (including Berlin), where the proportion was 14%. In 2007, 4.0 million minor children were growing up in slightly more than 2.3 million families with a migration background in Germany, while 9.8 million minor children were raised in just over 6.2 million families without a migration background.
