9.3% less insolvencies in first half of 2008


WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in first half of 2008, German insolvency courts reported 77,225 insolvencies; 14,650 of them referred to enterprises and 62,575 to other debtors. Without the results of Nordrhein-Westfalen the total number of insolvencies decreased 9.3% compared with first half of 2007, enterprise insolvencies decreased 8.3% and insolvencies of other debtors decreased 9.5%.

In June 2008, 12,761 insolvencies (–7.0%) were registered, 2,405 of which were enterprise insolvencies (–8.5%). Altogether the courts registered 8,100 consumer insolvencies, that were 5.9% less in June 2007. The change rates refer to computations without Nordrhein-Westfalen.
