Increase in settlement and traffic area by 113 hectares per day
WIESBADEN– The settlement and traffic area in Germanygrew by a total of 1 648 km² in the years from 2004 to 2007. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), that is a calculated daily increase by 113 hectares or some 161 football fields. The sustainability strategy of the federal government aims to reduce the daily demand for new settlement and traffic area to 30 hectares per day by the year 2020.
