2008: Reduction of overtime hours and short-time work have downward effect on increase in earnings
WIESBADEN – According to first national accounting results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), average gross earnings of all employees in Germanyrose 2.3% to EUR 27,754 in 2008. Hence the increase in earnings was slightly below the inflation rate of 2.6%. When determining average earnings for the overall economy (gross wages and salaries per employee) in national accounts, all groups of employees are covered – including employees with job opportunities, persons in minor employment as well as managers, management board members and public officials. What is also included is any remuneration and benefits in money’s worth received for work performed, such as Christmas and vacation bonuses, allowances and premiums.
