2008: Population with Turkish passport decreasing by 25,000
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), at the end of 2008, the Central Register of Foreigners showed a total of about 6.73 million persons in Germany with a foreign citizenship only. As compared to 2007, the number decreased by just under 0.3%. The largest decrease was recorded for the population with a Turkish passport in the Central Register of Foreigners: With 1.69 million at the end of 2008, their number was by 25,200 lower than one year before (–1.5%). Naturalisations of Turkish citizens are assumed to be a major reason for that decrease.
