Importance of the industry nearly unchanged over the past 15 years


WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the occasion of the Hanover trade fair taking place from 20 to 24 April 2009, the German industry (manufacturing) has maintained is share in Germany’s gross domestic product over the past 15 years.

Gross value added of the industry was about EUR 525 billion at current prices in 2008. The share of that sector in the gross value added of all economic sectors in Germany thus was 23.5%, which was almost exactly the same as in 1994 (23.1%). In 2008 there were some 7.7 million persons in employment in manufacturing, and about EUR 342 billion of compensation of employees was paid.
