WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results, 682 000 persons in-migrated to Germanyin 2008. Compared with the previous year, the number of in-migrants remained nearly constant (681 000). The years from 2001 to 2006 had seen a steady decrease in in-migration. In 2008, 574 000 foreign migrants came to Germany, which means that there was hardly any change compared with a year earlier (575 000). The number of German in-migrants grew by 2 000 on the previous year, accounting for a total of around 108 000, which included 4 000 ethnic German repatriates (excluding accompanying family members of foreign citizenship).
