Agreed earnings again rose more strongly than consumer prices in April 2009
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the monthly agreed earnings of employees in Germany increased by an average of 2.8% between April 2008 and April 2009. As some pay settlements included an increase in weekly working hours, the rise in agreed hourly earnings amounted to not more than 2.6%. Since consumer prices rose by just 0.7% over the same period, employees covered by collective agreements again saw a significant increase in their purchasing power if they benefited from the full extent of the agreed pay rises.
