60 percent of persons in employment going to work by car
WIESBADEN – About 60% of the persons in employment used a car to cover their daily distance to work in 2008. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) in Wiesbaden, over the last twelve years no trend towards using other means of transport has been observed among persons in employment despite relevant appeals and increasing fuel prices. According to the results of a survey conducted on commuting patterns as part of the microcensus, since 1996 especially public short-distance passenger transport has not gained in acceptance among those commuting to their place of work – instead, it has become less attractive (1996: 11.5%; 2008: 10.8%).
