WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in August 2009, German insolvency courts reported 12,874 insolvencies; 2,619 of them referred to enterprises and 7,858 to consumers. The total number of insolvencies increased 3.5% compared with August 2008, enterprise insolvencies increased 12.3% and insolvencies of consumers increased 0.3%. From January to August 2009 106,907 insolvencies (+2.2%) were registered, 21,807 of which were enterprise insolvencies (+15.5%). Altogether the courts registered 65,710 consumer insolvencies, which were 1.1% less in January to August 2008.
