Consumer prices in November 2009: Presumably +0.3% on November 2008
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the consumer price index for Germany is expected to increase 0.3% in November 2009 compared with November 2008 (October 2009: +/–0.0% on October 2008), according to results available from six Länder. Compared with October 2009, the index will be down by 0.2%. Different trends were observed for the prices of liquid fuel and motor fuels. Liquid fuel prices in November 2009 changed between –0.2% and +3.4% on October 2009, depending on the Land. Compared with November 2008, however, liquid fuel prices are still lower by between 12.9% and 18.6%. Motor fuel prices were up by between 1.4% and 3.0% on October 2009, depending on the Land. For the first time since November 2008 they were above the level of a year earlier (+4.1% to +6.3%). Food prices rose slightly from October 2009 (+0.2% to +0.8%). Compared with November 2008, however, food prices were still lower by 1.3% to 3.0%. The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to be up by 0.4% from November 2008 to November 2009 (October 2009: –0.1% on October 2008). Compared with the preceding month, the index will be down by 0.1% in November. The final results for November 2009 will be released on 9 December 2009.
