Industrial investment in tangible fixed assets amounting to more than Euro 60 billion in 2008
WIESBADEN – In 2008, that is before the current economic crisis started to exert its full effect on short-term economic activity in manufacturing, German industrial enterprises with 20 or more persons employed invested about Euro 60.7 billion in tangible fixed assets. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), that was an increase of Euro 4.2 billion on 2007 (+7.4%). As is shown by the infra-annual results of national accounting, investment activity declined markedly as early as in the fourth quarter of 2008. That trend became even more pronounced in the first quarter of 2009, which will be reflected in the results of the 2009 survey of investments.
