Falling producer prices for services in the 3rd quarter of 2009
WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), producer prices for services mostly declined in the third quarter of 2009 against the third quarter of 2008. Steep price falls were recorded for sea transport: The prices of services in sea and coastal water transport were markedly down by 27.5% compared with one year earlier.The index of producer prices for telecommunication was 5.7% below the level of the same quarter of the previous year. The prices of fixed-line and Internet services fell by an average 1.1%, those of mobile communications services even by 11.8%. Prices also declined in freight transport by road (–3.3%). In contrast to that, prices in rail freight transport were up 2.0% in the third quarter of 2009 as compared to a year earlier. The prices of postal and courier services decreased by 1.7%.
