Further decline in the population expected for 2009
WIESBADEN – According to estimates of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the population of Germany probably declined sligthly again in 2009 on the previous year. The decline is estimated at about 0.3% – from 82.0 million inhabitants at the end of 2008 to 81.8 to 81.7 million at the end of 2009. Hence the decline in the population continued.
