Consumer prices in February 2010: Presumably +0.4% on February 2009


WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the consumer price index for Germany is expected to rise 0.4% in February 2010 on February 2009 (January 2010: +0.8% on January 2009), according to results available so far. Compared with January 2010, the consumer price index will be up 0.2%.
 
In February 2010, slight price decreases were observed for liquid fuel and motor fuels. Compared with January 2010, liquid fuel prices fell by between 1.0% and 4.5% and motor fuel prices by between 0.6% and 2.2%, depending on the Land. Compared with February 2009, however, the prices were markedly higher (liquid fuel up to 16.0%, motor fuels up to 12.3%). Food prices rose just slightly (+/–0.0% to +0.9%) from January 2010. Compared with February 2009, however, food is still cheaper (–0.1% to –2.1%).
 
The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to increase by 0.3% from February 2009 to February 2010 (January 2010: +0.8% on January 2009). Compared with the previous month, the index will be up 0.2% in February 2010.
 
The final results for February 2010 will be released on 10 March 2010.
