January 2010: Number of persons employed in manufacturing decreasing by 4.9%
WIESBADEN– At the end of January 2010, just over 4.9 million persons worked in local units of manufacturing with 50 or more persons employed inGermany.As reported by the Federal Statistical Office(Destatis)on the basis of provisional results, that was about 251,500 persons or 4.9% less than in January 2009. The number of hours worked in January 2010 decreased by 4.9% from a year earlier, reaching 591 million. The earnings (total gross wages and salaries) amounted to Euro 16.6 billion; that was 3.8% less than in January 2009.
