WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), Germany-based enterprises sold 343.1 million litres of sparkling wine in 2009, that is 0.9% more than in the previous year. Sales include both sparkling wine produced in the country and imported foreign products (for instance champagne). In 2009, domestic consumption accounted for 93% of total sales of sparkling wine. Quantities decreased by 0.3% to 317.9 million litres. Tax-free sales (exports) amounted to 24.3 million litres of sparkling wine (+17.8%).
