Almost 9% of all employment contracts on a fixed-term basis in 2008

WIESBADEN – Since 1991, the number of persons in employment with a fixed-term contract has never been higher in Germany than in 2008. This was reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of microcensus results. According to these figures, 2.7 million or 8.9% of the persons in employment aged 15 to under 65 years (excluding pupils and students with a spare time job, and apprentices) worked on a fixed-term basis in 2008. In 1991, the first year for which data were available for Germany after reunification, the corresponding rate was 5.7%.

More detailed information on fixed-term employment contracts is provided in a German-language article published today in the STATmagazin of the Federal Statistical Office.

An English version of the article will be published in due course.
