Exports down by just 6.4% in the 4th quarter of 2009


WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), German exports declined by 17.9% to a total of Euro 808.2 billion in 2009 compared with 2008. The decrease in exports was 16.4% after adjustment for price changes. In the fourth quarter of 2009, German exports dropped by just 6.4% to a total of Euro 216.7 billion in a year-on-year comparison. In price-adjusted terms, exports declined by 2.7% over the same period.
 
Compared with the fourth quarter of 2008, German exports to EU member states decreased by 7.7% to Euro 132.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2009. Over the same period, a slightly lower decline of 4.3% to Euro 84.6 billion was recorded for exports to countries outside the European Union (third countries).
