German exports in July 2010: +18.7% on July 2009

WIESBADEN – According to provisional data of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), Germany exported commodities to the value of Euro 83.0 billion and imported commodities to the value of Euro 69.5 billion in July 2010. Hence, German exports increased by 18.7% and imports by 24.9% in July 2010 on July 2009.
The foreign trade balance showed a surplus of Euro 13.5 billion in July 2010. In July 2009, the surplus amounted to Euro 14.3 billion.

Upon calendar and seasonal adjustment, exports decreased by 1.5% and imports by 2.2% on June 2010.
In calendar and seasonally adjusted terms, the foreign trade balance recorded a surplus of Euro 12.7 billion in July 2010.

According to provisional results of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the current account of the balance of payments showed a surplus of Euro 9.0 billion in July 2010, which included the balance of services (– Euro 3.1 billion), factor income net (+ Euro 3.4 billion), current transfers (– Euro 3.6 billion), and supplementary trade items (– Euro 1.3 billion). In July 2009, the German current account showed a surplus of Euro 10.6 billion.

In July 2010, Germany dispatched commodities to the value of Euro 48.6 billion to the Member States of the European Union (EU), while it received commodities to the value of Euro 44.0 billion from those countries. Compared with July 2009, dispatches to the EU countries increased by 14.6% and arrivals from those countries by 21.8%. Commodities to the value of Euro 33.1 billion (+15.1%) were dispatched to the Euro area countries in July 2010, while the value of the commodities received from those countries was Euro 31.5 billion (+21.3%). In July 2010, commodities to the value of Euro 15.5 billion (+13.5%) were dispatched to EU countries not belonging to the Euro area, while the value of the commodities which arrived from those countries was Euro 12.5 billion (+23.0%).

Exports of commodities to countries outside the European Union (third countries) amounted to Euro 34.4 billion in July 2010, while imports from those countries totalled Euro 25.4 billion. Compared with July 2009, exports to third countries increased by 25.1% and imports from those countries by 30.8%.
