Consumer prices in September 2011: expected rise of +2.6% on September 2010

WIESBADEN – The consumer price index for Germany is expected to rise by 2.6% in September 2011 compared with September 2010. As further reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of the results available so far, the consumer price index is expected to increase by 0.1% on August 2011.

A higher increase in consumer prices was last observed in September 2008 (+2.9%).

The rising inflation rate in September 2011 is largely attributable to the price trends recorded for mineral oil products and an increase in the prices of clothing and footwear due to the changeover to the new autumn and winter collection.

The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to increase by 2.8% in September 2011 on September 2010. Compared with August 2011, the index is expected to rise by 0.1%.

The final results for September 2011 will be released on 13 October 2011.
