Higher number of children and youth welfare institutions


WIESBADEN –The total number of children and youth welfare institutions in Germany (excluding facilities providing day care for children) rose by some 5% and amounted to 29,200 at the end of 2010 against 2006 when the last survey had been conducted. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of institutions of public bodies was down by 1.8%. In contrast, private bodies operated an additional 4.6% of institutions compared with four years earlier; their share in the total number of institutions amounted to around 76%. In addition, there also were almost 3,500 institutions and offices of youth welfare administration in 2010 (+21.9% against 2006).
