Assessed inheritance and gift tax rising 7.5% to Euro 4.6 billion in 2010

Press release No. 040 / 2012-02-03  In 2010, the assessed inheritance and gift tax rose 7.5% from the previous year, reaching Euro 4.6 billion. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the underlying inheritances and legacies (transfers by reason of death) and gifts totalled Euro 30.6 billion.


Social insurance funds: financial surplus in 1st to 3rd quarters of 2011

Press release No. 018 / 2012-01-16  The social insurance funds – as defined in public finance statistics – recorded a financial surplus in cash terms of about Euro 6.0 billion in the first to third quarters of 2011. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in the same period of the previous year the social insurance funds had showed a financial deficit of Euro 3.9 billion.


Public financial deficit down to Euro 33.7 billion in the first three quarters of 2011

Press release No. 486 / 2011-12-29  In the first three quarters of 2011, the cash deficit of the core and extra budgets of the overall public budget as defined in public finance statistics – decreased to Euro 33.7 billion. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis ) on the basis of provisional results of quarterly cash statistics, the financial deficit thus was by Euro 51.4 billion lower than in the first three quarters of 2010.


Public debt in the 3rd quarter of 2011 increasing by Euro 10 billion

Press release No. 485 / 2011-12-27  At the end of the 3rd quarter of 2011, the debt of the overall public budget in Germany amounted to Euro 2,027.5 billion. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis ) on the basis of provisional results, that was an increase by Euro 10.4 billion or 0.5% compared with the end of the 2nd quarter of 2011.


Financial deficit of municipalities amounting to Euro 5.3 billion in the first three quarters of 2011

Press release No. 472 / 2011-12-16  The municipalities and associations of municipalities in Germany (excluding city states) recorded a financial deficit in cash terms including extra budgets of EUR 5.3 billion in the first three quarters of 2011 (as defined in public finance statistics).


High number of retirements of teachers again in 2010

Press release No. 447 / 2011-12-06  About 19,600 teachers (public officials) retired in 2010. As further reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), that corresponded to the all-time high reached in 2007. Compared with 2009 the number of retirements was up by 5.6% (+1,000 retirements).


Public debt of Euro 2,011.5 billion in 2010

Press release No. 442 / 2011-11-30  According to corrected results, the debt owed by the overall public budget (Federation, Länder, municipalities/associations of municipalities and statutory social insurance including any extra budgets) to the non-public sector amounted to Euro 2,011.5 billion at the end of 2010.

Press release No. 381 / 2011-10-13  In the first half of 2011, the statutory social insurance funds (as defined in public finance statistics) recorded a financial surplus in cash terms of Euro 4.0 billion. 1% of all taxpayers paid 25% of income tax revenue

Press release No. 378 / 2011-10-12  1% of all taxpayers recorded in Germany achieved an income of more than EUR 172,000 in 2007. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) based on its income tax statistics, the former group paid 25.0% of the assessed wage and income tax. The remaining 75.0% of the above tax were paid by the taxpayers with an annual income of less than EUR 172,000.


Financial deficit of overall public budget declining by Euro 44.4 billion in the first half of 2011

Press release No. 365 / 2011-09-30  Based on provisional results of the quarterly cash statistics, the cash deficit of the overall public budget – as defined in public finance statistics – amounted to Euro 15.6 billion in the first half of 2011. As also reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the deficit was by Euro 44.4 billion lower than in the same period a year earlier.

Public debt of Euro 24,904 per inhabitant in 2010

Press release No. 357 / 2011-09-27  At the end of 2010, the debt owed by the overall public budget (Federation, Länder, municipalities/associations of municipalities and statutory social insurance, including any extra budgets) to the non-public sector amounted to Euro 2,035.9 billion. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of final results now available, that corresponded to a theoretical debt of Euro 24,904 per inhabitant.


Trade tax rates increase on a federal average in 2010

Press release No. 298 / 2011-08-17  As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in 2010, the average trade tax rate in Germany amounted to 390%, which was minimal over the preceding year’s level (387%). The total trade tax revenue amounted to EUR 35.7 billion in 2010, which was a 10.1% increase from the preceding year.


More public service personnel in education and child care in 2010

Press release No. 276 / 2011-07-26  Due to an increase in the number of staff at institutions of higher education, schools and day care centres for children, the number of public service personnel rose to some 4.59 million by mid-2010. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was an increase of 38,600 or 0.8% compared with 2009.

Press release No. 266 / 2011-07-14  In the first quarter of 2011, the statutory social insurance funds – as defined in public finance statistics – recorded a financial surplus in cash terms of Euro 0.1 billion. As further reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), it had recorded a financial deficit of Euro 4.0 billion in the first quarter of the previous year. 


Financial deficit of overall public budget declining by Euro 15.8 billion in the first quarter of 2011

Press release No. 246 / 2011-06-30  The cash deficit of the overall public budget – as defined in public finance statistics – amounted to Euro 34.7 billion in the first quarter of 2011. As also reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results of the quarterly cash statistics, this was a decline in the deficit of Euro 15.8 billion on the first quarter of 2010.


More public service pensioners of the Federation, Länder and municipalities

Press release No. 244 / 2011-06-30  The total number of pensioners of the Federation, Länder and municipalities amounted to about 746,300 on 1 January 2011. As also reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional data of the statistics on public service pensioners, this was a 3.1% increase on a year earlier in the number of former public officials and professional soldiers.


Number of retired public officials of the Federation slightly up

Press release No. 158 / 2011-04-26  On reference day 1 January 2011, there were about 126,600 pensioners of the Federation. As further reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results of the statistics on public service pensioners, that was 0.7% more former public officials or professional soldiers than a year earlier. Also in January 2011, some 47,400 surviving dependants received payments from the public old-age pension system of the Federation (–1.2% from the previous year).


Turnover tax statistics in 2009: 412 turnover billionaires in Germany

Press release No. 133 / 2011-04-01  As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of turnover tax statistics 412 businesses – 51 less than in 2008 – achieved a turnover of EUR 1 billion or more.
