Opportunities and limitations of indicator-based market monitoring, using the example of the “Europe 2020” strategy

Market monitoring, that is, the statistical recording of both structures and results of market exchange relationships, has a long tradition. However, the perspectives, aspects of interest and methods used differ depending on the observer, market and issues concerned. As regards policy-related matters such as political decision-making, providing policy advice or creating acceptance of political measures in society,economy and science, indicators and indicator systems have become increasingly important.
