Coherence of German Labour Market Statistics - Statistics and Science

Volume 19

Titelbild: Statistics and Science Vol. 19

Coherence is on top of the agenda of many statistical offices. Having been one of the standard quality criteria for statistical data for many years, coherence continued to receive growing attention over the last decade. Against the background of a trend towards a combined use of different data sources (or even the integration of data sources), obtaining coherent results becomes at the same time increasingly important. This study paves the way to analyse and document the coherence of various data sources in the field of labour market statistics.

It introduces how conceptual as well as methodological differences of different statistics can be taken into account when analysing different data sources. It covers both employment and unemployment data. In the first part of the study, the employment figures from the Labour Force Survey and the Employment Accounts are being compared and assessed regarding their coherence. The second part focuses on a comparison of the unemployment figures from the Labour Force Survey and the Unemployment Register Statistics from the Federal Employment Agency.
