United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

Portrait of the organization

The United Nations Children's Fund was founded in 1946. Originally established as United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund to help children in Europe after the Second World War, UNICEF's main focus nowadays is the situation of children and parents in developing countries. UNICEF supports mothers in matters relating to family planning, hygiene, food / nutrition, health and education as well as humanitarian aid in emergency situations. UNICEF works in 190 countries through country programmes and National Committees. The UNICEF headquarters are in New York.
