In 2016, roughly 32,400 tonnes of fish, mussels and other aquaculture products were produced in approximately 3,000 aquaculture businesses in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that aquaculture production as a whole increased by nearly 5,500 tonnes or 20.3% compared with a year earlier.
