Wine must harvest 2016: 2.2% more than in 2015



9.1 million hectoliters of wine must German winemakers harvested in 2016. The entire wine must harvest rose by 196.434 hectoliters (2.2%) in contrast to the previous year. Compared to the six-year average 2010 to 2015 (8.7 million hectoliters) the harvest was 417.413 hectoliters higher, or 4.8%.

Survey of areas under vines, 2016: cultivation of Riesling reached record high



German winegrowers extend the cultivation of Riesling and focus more on vine varieties well known internationally. Riesling, the most important variety in Germany, reached a record high in 2016, the relevant area under vines being 23,700 hectares. This was an increase of 104 hectares on 2015, when the basic survey of vine acreage was last conducted.
