New Orders

Manufacturing in May 2018: New orders +2.6% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

Based on provisional data, price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had increased in May 2018 a seasonally and calendar adjusted 2.6% on the previous month. For April 2018, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in a decrease of 1.6% compared with March 2018 (primary –2.5%).

Production index

Production in May 2018: +2.6% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

In May 2018, production in industry was up by 2.6% from the previous month on a price, seasonally and calendar adjusted basis according to provisional data. In April 2018, the corrected figure shows an decrease of 1.3% (primary –1.0%) from March 2018.

Turnover

Manufacturing in May 2018: Turnover +0.9% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

The price-adjusted turnover in manufacturing in May 2018 was up a seasonally and calendar adjusted 0.9% on the previous month. In April 2018, the corrected figure shows a decrease of 0.1% to March 2018 (primary value: +0.3%).

Stock of Orders

Manufacturing in April 2018: unfilled orders up a seasonally adjusted 0.8% on the previous month

Based on provisional data, the price adjusted stock of orders in manufacturing in April 2018 rose a seasonally calendar andadjusted 0.8% on the previous month, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The domestic orders not yet completed decreased 0.8% on the previous month, the stock of foreign orders rose 1.6%. The stock of orders comprises the total of new orders received by the end of the reference month which have not led to any turnover and have not been cancelled by that time.

Employees

Number of employees in manufacturing in May 2018: +2.7% year on year

At the end of May 2018, 5.6 million people worked in local units of manufacturing with 50 or more persons employed in Germany. On the basis of provisional results, that was a rise by about 147,000 persons or 2.7% against May 2017.

Investments

Investments in industry up 3.9% in 2016 year on year

German industrial enterprises with 20 or more persons employed invested 62.1 billion euros in tangible fixed assets in 2016. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of roughly 2.4 billion euros or 3.9% compared with 2015.

As of reference month January 2018, the monthly indices of new orders and turnover in manufacturing and of production in industry have been rebased from 2010 to the year 2015.
