New Orders

Manufacturing in September 2017: New orders +1.0% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

Based on provisional data, price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had increased in September 2017 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 1.0% on the previous month. In the past two months, German companies have received almost as many orders as they did before the economic and financial crisis end of 2007. For August 2017, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in increase of 4.1% compared with July 2017 (primary +3.6%).

Production index

Production in September 2017: -1.6% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

In September 2017, production in industry was down by 1.6% from the previous month on a price, seasonally and working day adjusted basis according to provisional data. In August 2017, the corrected figure shows an increase of 2.6%, thus confirming the provisional result published in the previous month.

Turnover

Manufacturing in September 2017: Turnover -1.8% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

The price-adjusted turnover in manufacturing in September 2017 was down a seasonally and working-day adjusted 1.8% on the previous month. In August 2017, it increased by 3.5% on July 2017 (primary +3.6%).

Employees

Number of employees in manufacturing in September 2017: +1.9% year on year

At the end of September 2017, 5.5 million people worked in local units of manufacturing with 50 or more persons employed in Germany. On the basis of provisional results, that was a rise by about 102,000 persons or 1.9% against September 2016.

Investments

Investments in industry up 3.9% in 2016 year on year

German industrial enterprises with 20 or more persons employed invested 62.1 billion euros in tangible fixed assets in 2016. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of roughly 2.4 billion euros or 3.9% compared with 2015.
