Structural data

Annual structural statistics in the service branches provide information on medium-term developments and structural changes. The following economic branches are covered (classification of economic activities – WZ 2008):

Transportation and storage: employment up 1.9% in the 3rd quarter of 2015

The number of persons employed in transportation and storage rose by 1.9% in the third quarter of 2015 compared with the same quarter of 2014. Based on first calculations, the number of persons employed has been higher in each quarter since the second quarter of 2010 compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Information and communication: turnover up 4.5% in the 3rd quarter of 2015

Turnover in the information and communication sector rose by a nominal 4.5% in the third quarter of 2015 compared with the same quarter of 2014. Based on first calculations, turnover has been higher in each quarter since the fourth quarter of 2013 compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The number of persons employed rose by 2.6% in the third quarter of 2015 from the same quarter a year earlier.

Professional and technical services: turnover up 4.9% in the 3rd quarter of 2015

Turnover in professional and technical services increased by a nominal 4.9% in the third quarter of 2015 compared with the same quarter of 2014. Based on first calculations, turnover has been higher in each quarter since the second quarter of 2013 compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Services in 2012: turnover increased by 21.3 billion euros

In 2012, more than 8.6 million people worked in roughly 908,200 enterprises and institutions in the service sector. They achieved a total turnover of over one trillion euros. Compared with the previous year, the turnover achieved in 2012 was up by 21.3 billion euros. The number of jobs increased by roughly 94,200 in the same period.

Life insurance companies: number of persons employed down 3.5% in 2012

The just under 900 insurance companies, pension funds (excluding burial funds) achieved gross premiums written to the amount of just under 245 billion euros in 2012. The volume of premiums was up 3.5% on the previous year. Sharp rises in premiums were observed for reinsurance companies (+9%) and for indemnity and accident insurance companies (+5%).

Cost structure data

2011: Receipts and net income of practices for public health patients: receipts from private patients make the difference

The practices for public health patients in Germany obtained average receipts of 486,000 euros in 2011. Across all practices for public health patients, the average net profit per practice was 235,000 euros in 2011.
