Structural data

Annual structural statistics in the service branches provide information on medium-term developments and structural changes. The following economic branches are covered (classification of economic activities – WZ 2008):
• Transportation and storage (section H)
• Information and communication (section J)
• Financial and insurance activities (section K)
• Real estate activities (section L)
• Professional, scientific and technical activities (section M)
• Administrative and support service activities (section N)

Short-term data

Service sector 2st quarter of 2015: turnover and employment

Transportation and storage:

The number of persons employed in transportation and storage rose 2.5% in the second quarter of 2015 compared with the same quarter of 2014. According to first calculations, the positive employment trend observed in previous quarters continued. However, this does not hold for turnover in this economic sector, which stagnated in the second quarter of 2015 year on year (+0.1% in nominal terms).

Information and communication:

Turnover in information and communication rose by a nominal 5.8% in the second quarter of 2015 compared with the same quarter of 2014. According to first calculations, the positive trend observed in the previous year continued. This also holds for the number of persons employed, which was up 2.5% in the second quarter of 2015 on the same quarter a year earlier.

Professional and technical services:

Turnover in professional and technical services increased a nominal 3.4% in the second quarter of 2015 compared with the same quarter of 2014. According to first calculations, the number of persons employed rose by 2.3% in the second quarter of 2015 year on year.

Structural survey

Ser­vices in 2012: turnover in­creased by 21.3 bil­lion eu­ros

In 2012, more than 8.6 million people worked in roughly 908,200 enterprises and institutions in the service sector. They achieved a total turnover of over one trillion euros. Compared with the previous year, the turnover achieved in 2012 was up by 21.3 billion euros. The number of jobs increased by roughly 94,200 in the same period.

Life in­sur­ance com­pa­nies: num­ber of per­sons em­ployed down 3.5% in 2012

The just under 900 insurance companies, pension funds (excluding burial funds) achieved gross premiums written to the amount of just under 245 billion euros in 2012. The volume of premiums was up 3.5% on the previous year. Sharp rises in premiums were observed for reinsurance companies (+9%) and for indemnity and accident insurance companies (+5%).

Cost structure data

2011: Re­ceipts and net in­come of prac­tices for pub­lic health pa­tients: re­ceipts from pri­vate pa­tients make the d­if­fer­ence

The practices for public health patients in Germany obtained average receipts of 486,000 euros in 2011. Across all practices for public health patients, the average net profit per practice was 235,000 euros in 2011.
